Cookie Policy

This page describes what this website places on your device and what leaves your browser while you read it. It is written to the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, which govern cookies and similar technologies in the UK, and to the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, which govern the personal data involved. It describes what this site actually does rather than reciting a standard table, so it is shorter than most pages of this kind.

The position in one paragraph

This site sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. Nothing in the theme writes a cookie, and nothing in it writes to local storage or session storage in your browser. There is no consent banner because there is nothing on the site that consent would be required for. Two kinds of content are loaded from other companies, described below, and those requests reveal your IP address to the companies concerned in the ordinary way that any request for a file on the internet does.

What a cookie is, and why the distinction matters

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and hand back on later visits. Similar technologies, including local storage and session storage, do the same job by a different mechanism and are treated the same way by the regulations.

The law splits them in two. A cookie that is strictly necessary for a service you asked for, such as keeping you signed in, can be set without consent. Everything else, including all analytics and all advertising, needs your consent before it is set. That distinction is the reason this page is able to be brief: the second category is empty here.

Cookies this website sets

None, for an ordinary visitor reading the pages.

WordPress, which this site runs on, sets cookies for people who sign in to the administration area. Those are session and authentication cookies, they are strictly necessary for the sign-in to work, and a visitor who never signs in never receives one. A test cookie is also written at the moment somebody attempts to sign in, purely to check that the browser accepts cookies at all. These belong to the website itself and are cleared when the account is signed out.

The enquiry form, and what it puts in your browser

The enquiry form on this site is a plain form. It stores nothing on your device: what you type is submitted when you press the button, and nothing is retained in the browser afterwards. Your browser’s own autofill may offer to remember a name or an email address, which is a browser feature under your control rather than something the site does.

If the form is later replaced with an embedded form from a customer management system, that provider may well set cookies of its own, and this page has to be revisited and a consent mechanism added if so.

The interactive tools, and why they leave nothing behind

The costs page carries a sizer and a checklist tool, and the contact page carries a coverage map. All three run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted to a server, saved to your device, or used to price anything. Close the tab and the figures are gone.

Typefaces loaded from another company

The typefaces used across the site are served by Fontshare, which means your browser requests a stylesheet and a small number of font files from api.fontshare.com and cdn.fontshare.com. Making that request necessarily reveals your IP address, your browser type and the page you are on to that service, which is true of any file requested from any server. No cookie is set by the theme in connection with it. What Fontshare itself does with a request is governed by its own privacy terms.

If font requests to a third party are unwelcome, the fonts can be hosted on this site’s own server instead, which removes the external request entirely. That is a change worth considering during the legal review.

The coverage map on the contact page

The map on the contact page draws its tiles from the OpenStreetMap tile service, so your browser requests image tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org while the map is on screen. The mapping library itself is bundled with this site rather than fetched from a content delivery network, so the tile images are the only external part.

The map appears on the contact page and nowhere else, so no other page on this site makes that request. Where the map does not load, the page shows a link to the same view on OpenStreetMap instead, and the coverage list underneath carries the same answer in words.

Links that open WhatsApp

The WhatsApp panel composes a message and hands it to WhatsApp when you choose to send it. Until you press the button nothing leaves your browser, and no cookie is involved in the panel itself. Once the message is handed over, it is subject to WhatsApp’s own terms, which are outside this site’s control.

Analytics, and the position today

No analytics library is loaded on this website. There is no Google Analytics, no Google Tag Manager, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracking script.

The site does push a short record of certain interactions, such as a button being clicked, into a JavaScript variable in your browser called the data layer. With no analytics tool installed, that record goes nowhere, is transmitted nowhere, is stored nowhere, and disappears when the page is closed. It exists so that measurement could be switched on later without the site having to be rebuilt.

If analytics or advertising tools are added at any point, they will place cookies or similar identifiers, and at that point three things become necessary: a consent mechanism that asks before anything non-essential is set, an update to this page naming the providers and the cookies, and an update to the privacy policy. None of that applies today, and this page will be revised on the day it does.

Server logs, which are not cookies

The company hosting this website will keep ordinary server logs recording requests, IP addresses, timestamps and browser identifiers. That is a normal part of running a web server and is used for security and for diagnosing faults rather than for tracking anybody across the internet. Logs are separate from cookies and are held by the host under its own arrangements and its own retention period.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Even though this site sets nothing that requires it, every browser lets you see the cookies stored for a site, delete them, block them by category, or refuse them altogether. The controls sit in the privacy or site settings section of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and browsers also offer private or incognito windows that discard everything at the end of the session.

Blocking cookies on this site affects nothing a visitor uses, because there is nothing here that depends on them. On other sites, blocking everything will usually break signing in and shopping baskets, so a category-level setting is generally more practical than a blanket block.

How this page is kept accurate

The claims above are checked against the site itself rather than assumed, and they hold only for as long as the site stays as it is. Adding an embedded booking system, a chat widget, a video embed, a social feed, a review widget or an advertising tag would each change the position, and each would require this page to be updated and, in most cases, a consent mechanism to be added first.
